So I’ve Played “The Passing”…

Sunday, 9 May, 2010

I’ve just played “The Passing” campaign for Left 4 Dead 2, and I must admit, it didn’t really feel that right to me.

I liked the level design of the new campaign. The maps twist and wind, making you feel as if you’re really immersed into the area, and making each map seem large. However, that’s pretty much it. The storyline is pretty tacked on, and the death of one of the original cast doesn’t even affect the rest of the crew. Also, the end decision of the original survivors to NOT follow the others is pretty lame. Where the hell were they educated to learn that splitting up is the best way to survive (Although, it might break L4D mechanics)?

The new mutation modes, however, do not seem so fun. Although the game modes change every week, it seems more like a mini game (like scavenge) than a true game mode. For example, I’ll use the current mode, “Realism Versus”. It may seem like fun, but what’s bound to happen is a bunch of people rushing the maps to get as many points as possible before dying on the first hunter pounce.
