Angel Beats Midseason Review

Sunday, 9 May, 2010

Episode six of Angel Beats was finally released over last weekend, which means it’s time for a mid-season review of the series.

During the beginning, I had rated the show an 8/10, saying it has many “great promises”. Don’t bother looking for the post though, as our database had a little hiccup within these six weeks’ time. However, from our current impression, here’s what we’d give it:

7/10

“Why that drop of a point?”, the inquisitive one asks.

“OMG you Key hater! maeda Jun izz da best!!!!111″, screams the Key fans.

But here’s the deal on the score drop. During episode one, the main plot really did progress. The main character woke up in an unknown world, and got recruited by Yuri to try and erase “Tenshi”.

However, as the season progressed on, the plot trickles, and at times, doesn’t progress at all. For the next five episodes or so, the story goes on to explain how people in this world survive, how they can form their weaponry, how “Tenshi” tries to keep public order, and why people get erased. Which is fine for any anime, but considering that Angel Beats! is only 13 episodes long, that’s one really long six episode introduction. And unless they’re planning on throwing out season two really soon, I’m expecting hordes of angry fans wanting more.

Speaking of “more”, how many more characters are yo going to erase/introduce? What is really going to happen if you get erased? Where is God? These questions still remain unanswered.

That’s why I gave this show a score drop to 7.

My favorite character so far would have to be:

Tachibana

What about you?
