Tears to Tiara is a fantasy adventure anime series animated by White Fox. It is a remake of a 2005 PC eroge strategy game by the same title.
The story revolves around Arthur, the “First Warrior” of the Gael Tribe, and his sister, Riannon. Riannon has been kidnapped as a sacrifice to resurrect the Demon Lord Arawn by a priest of the Divine Empire”. However, when Arawn defies his captors’ wishes and saves Riannon, he inevitably leads the Gael Tribe into a war against the Divine Empire.
Storywise, it’s pretty interesting, and does an excellent job of enveloping the audience into it’s vast world. The story never seemed to be stretched, and there are also many places in the show where I thought something was true, but then was later revealed as false.
Overall, the art quality is great, but not the best. Characters and the environment are drawn with detail, and give the audience a feel of depth. However, the animators slacked off during conversations between characters. If one looks carefully, he can clearly see that the characters’ mouth movements do not match what they’re saying. Also, one may notice that sometimes the characters may seem to be horribly misproportioned at certain cuts(one clear character that suffers from this is the maid Limwris).
The voice acting is also something I’d like to nitpick about. It sounds as if many of the characters are acted by the same voice actor(although they aren’t). Also, I felt as if the voice actresses for Limwris and Riannon sound too similar.
There are some character personalities I have to nitpick about though. One of them is Arawn. He seems to be a chick magnet of sorts, managing to pick up so many wives within such a short amount of time. It makes me feel bad for Arthur, and how he doesn’t get one girl flying into his arms any time in the series. Riannon is one character personality I hate. Throughout many scenes in the series, you’ll see how she, for no apparent reason, grows so emotionally attached to Arawn that the first person she talks to after being rescued will be Arawn, instead of her own brother.
